Yamato International — young staff call for Change!

Yamato International, the apparel maker known for the CROCODILE brand, set out to become a company that keeps changing as it reached its 70th year. It began in 2013 with a “Young Change! Project”, and three years later moved its Osaka head office and renewed its Tokyo head office with UCHIDA YOKO. The project covers about 1,094 m².

Concept

Young voices

Young employees had been leaving one after another, a danger for a company with a high average age. The president asked for a way to talk with them, and the project grew from there.

UCHIDA YOKO proposed a “strategy map” to make issues and goals visible, and workshops to go deeper.

A place that feels like fashion

The ageing, cluttered office was changed to work better, encourage communication and feel like an apparel company. The project won a Kinki New Office Encouragement Prize at the 30th Nikkei New Office Awards.
