Tatsuno — a centenary maker moves to change how it works

Tatsuno reached its 100th year in 2011 and then moved its head office as a new challenge for the brand. Rather than just moving, the company set the theme of changing how it works, and UCHIDA YOKO designed the workplace, managed the project and supplied furniture and ICT.

Getting up from the desk

In the old office, even a small question meant a stand-up chat or a trip to a meeting room. With everything at their fixed desks, people rarely stood up.

The new office puts communication with many different people first.

01 · Free address

A new neighbour every day

The floor for the president’s office, sales and service is free-address. Sitting next to someone different each day leads to more chance conversations, and the generous space makes it easier to speak up.

02 · Refresh

A new flow of people

A refresh space was placed on purpose on the floor for the administrative departments, whose staff seldom leave their desks, creating a new flow of people. On the third floor, a cross-shaped layout makes it easy to talk in a bright office.
