NOVEL WORK — Shiba Daimon: a façade from a shrine gate

NOVEL WORK is a nine-storey set-up office in Shiba Daimon, between Tokyo and Shinagawa, built to support emerging companies. moss. designed the 660 m² (7,104 sq ft) interior to be neutral but tactile, and gave the building a façade inspired by the gate of the nearby Shiba Daijingu Shrine.

Concept

A generous vessel

The designers call it “a generous vessel embracing diverse businesses”: an open platform for start-ups and regional companies alike, in a district where commerce and culture meet.

The interior is neutral yet tactile, meant to ease the mind and help people focus.

Shiba Daijingu’s gate, retold

The façade reinterprets the gate of the nearby Shiba Daijingu Shrine with contemporary detailing, a local symbol at the street.
