KOEI TECMO — Yokohama: a game headquarters with its own concert hall

KOEI TECMO GAMES built its new headquarters, the KT Building, in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai 21 district and completed it on 24 January 2020, marking ten years since the group’s merger. The ground floors hold a music hall, KT Zepp Yokohama; upstairs, lions guard the entrance and each floor has a relax space with its own theme.

Concept

Five ideas for one building

The company tells the building’s story in five phrases: harmony with the city, a life of creation, harmony with the universe, eating well in an entertainment space — and “if it isn’t fun, it isn’t work”.

The aim is twofold: better working conditions for its own people, and a stage for sending entertainment to the world. The hall hosts events, concerts and esports tournaments.

01 · The hall

KT Zepp Yokohama

On the first and second floors sits KT Zepp Yokohama, a new kind of hall that combines Zepp’s strengths as a live music venue with the company’s entertainment know-how.

02 · Entrance

A lion and an elephant

The entrance is guarded by a lion and an elephant, and another lion is set into the floor. Visitors reach the reception past a designed back wall and wait in lounges beside it.

03 · Lifts & halls

Carp climbing a waterfall

The lifts carry an image of carp swimming up a waterfall. Corridors are laid with carpet whose colour gradient shifts as you walk, leading to halls and meeting rooms.

04 · Cafeteria CORAL

A coral reef at the door

The cafeteria is called CORAL, and a coral reef marks its entrance. There are terrace seats too.

05 · Relax spaces

A different theme on every floor

Next to the offices are relax spaces, and each floor’s space has a different concept — so taking a break on the 2nd floor feels different from taking one on the 7th.
