RAKSUL — Meguro: timber houses under a 12-metre glass atrium

RAKSUL updates old industries — printing, advertising, logistics — with better systems. Its Meguro office is built around an atrium with a 12-metre glass ceiling, where timber rooms with trees on their roofs stand among the desks.

Concept

Open, and a little playful

RAKSUL’s motto is “Change the system, and the world gets better.” Its Meguro office has surprised visitors since the move in 2015 with an atrium under a 12-metre glass ceiling.

The office has grown and changed with the company — a 2017 expansion added a glass-walled work area next door — while keeping the same ideas: openness, and small devices for health and play such as standing desks, table tennis and exercise bikes.

01 · Reception

Wood, colour and a quiet corridor

The entrance is a warm timber box with a colourful artwork on the wall. From there a corridor of wood and glass leads past the meeting rooms, each with a code on the door.

Desks under the sky

Rows of desks sit on the atrium floor in daylight from the glass roof. Timber rooms stand among them like small houses, trees and grass growing on their roofs.

03 · Meetings

Rooms with a colour inside

Each timber room hides a single bold colour inside — pink, yellow, blue — and big openings keep them connected to the floor around them.

The motto on the wall

A chalk mural reads “The better the system, the better the world becomes!”, and the Japanese motto runs along a dark wall — the company’s purpose written where everyone passes.
