Akatsuki — Meguro: colour, plants and a climbing wall

Akatsuki has made games and entertainment since 2010, and builds its office on one idea: that excitement is easier to feel in a space made for it. The Meguro office answers with colour, art, plants and rooms to move in.

Concept

Excitement first

Akatsuki designs its offices so that excitement is easy to come by: art is brought in, and the space keeps evolving and expanding so that people can have many kinds of experience in it.

From the work floor where people lose themselves in a task, to shared rooms where a conversation starts by itself, the office gives somewhere to be for each mode of the day.

01 · Workspace

Laptops, murals and long benches

Everyone gets the machine their work needs, starting with MacBook Pro, plus dual displays, ZoomPhone and the peripherals that go with them. The work floors are long open rows, with painted walls and plants breaking up the space.

02 · Library & lounge

Books, colour and a place to sit

Shelves of books sit against the lounge, and the seating changes character from room to room — colour, plants, low chairs — so people can choose where to read or talk.

Green floors and cushions

One floor is laid with grass-green carpet and cushions to sit on, and outdoor-style tables and chairs are set out nearby.

05 · Cafe & culture

A barista, and rooms with names

The in-house café has a barista on hand (some drinks are paid), and the lounge keeps free drinks and snacks, so people gather without arranging to. Meeting rooms carry names of their own, painted onto the walls along with the murals that give each floor its character.

06 · Welfare

Living close, and support for parents

Akatsuki aims at an organisation where individual talent is used to the full and the work is enjoyable: a housing allowance for people living within 2 km of the office, a kids support and babysitter scheme, an employee shareholding plan, commuting costs and flu vaccination support. Study groups, an internal book loan, social events and circles keep people connected.
