NOMURA — Odaiba: a display company that puts its meetings on show

Nomura Co., Ltd. designs exhibitions, museums and shops. In March 2021 it opened a new office in the Daiba Garden City Building, next to its Odaiba head office: a park-like commons built entirely from fair-wood timber, and meeting rooms lit like exhibits along a darkened corridor.

Concept

Health, experiment, brand

The group began gathering its companies into one place in 2019. When the pandemic changed how people work, the project set three keywords — health, experiment and brand — to find what a real office should be in the new normal.

Nomura’s view: the office is changing from a place to do work into an innovative space that sparks communication, where many kinds of people meet by chance and trade ideas.

01 · RESET SPACE_2

A park anyone can use

The communication space RESET SPACE_2 follows the concept “Unique Park”: a place like a public park that every employee can use, in whatever individual way they work. All the timber used is fair wood.

02 · CONFERIUM

Meetings as an exhibition

CONFERIUM is a new kind of meeting-room zone that deliberately shows meetings off — an “exhibition of how we work”. The shared corridor is kept dark so the rooms glow like displays, borrowing know-how from exhibition design.

03 · Creative floor

Designing at real scale

The creative work area uses group addresses. The floor lets designers work with a real sense of scale and material — the “feel of design” that matters in spatial work. Clear purpose kept the space refined at low cost.
