Nikkei Eizo — FRAME by FRAME: a production company clears out

Nikkei Eizo produces TV programmes and corporate videos. After 20 years in the same building, its head office was full of things that blocked conversation. Staff pushed for a big clear-out and renewal of two floors, about 800 m² for some 100 people, and UCHIDA YOKO won the competition with the concept “FRAME -by- FRAME”.

Concept

Video is a series of scenes

The plan kept the functions needed for shooting and editing, but used as few partitions as possible and glass where rooms were needed, so people meet and talk.

Video companies often build small rooms and screens because of sound and monitors. Nikkei Eizo deliberately wanted an open office where everyone’s face can be seen.

Music and a tatami room

After visiting UCHIDA YOKO’s own office, the team adopted ideas such as changing eye levels with high tables and low sofas, plants, a Japanese-style room and background music at a gentle volume.
