Taiju Life — Tokyo: “Gather at the office, gather at the great tree”

Taiju Life began planning a head-office move in 2022 to fix the inconvenience of four separate Tokyo sites. About 1,500 people moved onto five floors, roughly 14,000 m², of a large office and retail building where two stations and eight lines are one to three minutes away. UCHIDA YOKO handled consulting, design and fit-out over more than two years.

Concept

The great tree

The design concept, “Gather at the office, gather at the great tree”, plays on the company name, taiju, a great tree.

The office is meant to strengthen teams, let people meet across departments and be a place people want to work.

About 50 people from each department joined workshops in six groups — such as management, sales and customer service — to discuss how they work now and want to work.

02 · Plan

Work that varies by job

The sessions made clear that places to work should vary by job, and the layout followed: efficient zones alongside spots for chance encounters.
