SIGMA SOFT SERVICE — Nihonbashi: a help desk furnished with paper tubes

SIGMA SOFT SERVICE provides IT systems from introduction and development to operation and maintenance. Katsumata Maruyama Architects renovated its 33 m² help-desk space in Nihonbashi Yokoyamachō, Tokyo, where nine people work at desks every day, with paper-tube furniture adapted from their Placemaking Kit.

Concept

Calm and productive

The help desk needed calm and high productivity, so the architects proposed a space of gentle materials.

The furniture uses the paper tubes of the Placemaking Kit, rebuilt at a scale between furniture and built-in fit-out.

Craft and temporariness

New walls keep the hand-made, temporary feel of the kit, with attention to the contrast of materials and the continuity of construction. A few materials and elements make an office that is functional yet soft.
