SAP — Tokyo: an office that pledges to flex

SAP opened a new Tokyo office built on its “Pledge to Flex”, which lets staff work more flexibly. Together with the Experience Center and Inspired.Lab already in Otemachi, it is treated as one campus of three sites, with an internal stair, a work café, agile pods and plenty of planting.

Concept

Three sites, treated as one campus

SAP’s vision “Pledge to Flex” promises staff more flexible ways of working. The new Tokyo office was planned together with the Experience Center and Inspired.Lab in Otemachi as a single campus — an ecosystem for innovation and collaboration with clients and partners.

Digital tools support hybrid work between people in the room and people online, and the layout was drawn to create chance meetings across teams.

An internal stair and a work café

An internal stair, a work café and the routes between them were planned so that people from different teams cross paths — which, Gensler says, has helped with team-building.

02 · Wellbeing

Agile pods among the plants

Mental health was a design goal too. Snacks and drinks are provided, and biophilic design brings in planting, relaxing sounds and scent. Agile pods sit among the greenery.
