Concept
Breaking up the stack
A high-rise office usually cuts people off floor by floor. At the centre of the building the Interforum opens 18F to 28F into one void, with stairs to move freely between them.
01 · Entrance (3F)
Art at the gates
Reception is on 3F: a wide, bright space with artworks. Staff tap their ID cards and visitors show a QR code issued in advance to pass the gates.
02 · Meetings (14F)
A different artwork in every room
14F is lined with meeting rooms and open meeting spaces for visitors and staff, each room with a different work of art, plus a seminar room for briefings and large meetings.
03 · Workspace (22F)
Free address, by division
22F is the standard work floor. Free spaces and one-person booths are arranged to suit each division, and free address makes it easy to talk with many people.
04 · Canteen (23F)
Lunch with a view
The canteen seats many people, has a shop and a fine view, with art on the walls.
05 · Services (24F)
A barber and a clinic
24F holds a barber’s shop, a health management centre with a clinic, and a mothers’ room, alongside work space.
06 · Upper floors (26F–30F)
Producing whole towns
26F is home to the development division, where architects and administrators produce whole districts. On 30F, an atrium holds sculptures and a large model of the Shinagawa Station area the company has helped develop, beside a restaurant.
