L’Oréal Japan — Shinjuku: “Beauty Valley”, made with old lipstick

NIHON L’ORÉAL renovated its Japan head office in Shinjuku and named it “Beauty Valley”. The Design Studio K.K. built the 6,400 m² (68,889 sq ft) office on the concept of en, connections, between Japan, customers, partners and staff, and repurposed the company’s own cosmetics as paints, lamp shades and tiles.

The company’s purpose is “Create The Beauty That Moves The World”. The office is named Beauty Valley, a creative hub where beauty is born, under the concept of en.

Japan’s four seasons, textures, furniture and decorations bring Japanese craftsmanship into the design.

01 · Upcycling

Products become materials

Eye shadows, foundations and lipsticks were turned into paints, lighting shades and tiles instead of being thrown away. Indoor greenery and dimmable LEDs support well-being, and the office was designed to the LEED standard.

02 · ABW

Hybrid by default

Activity-based working assumes hybrid work. Spaces suited to each job increase productivity, and dedicated rooms were added for live streaming.
