Goodyear Japan — Roppongi: an office that “keeps on rolling”, built around a circle

Concept

Keep moving, keep running

The building had been home for more than fifty years and was to be rebuilt. Goodyear’s Asia-Pacific region had introduced “Flexible Work Arrangements”, letting people choose what they wear, when and where they work, and which desk. The new office was to embody it.

From the tyre came the concept “keep moving, keep running”. A “communication circle” sits at the centre of an open plan with as few walls as possible.

01 · Entrance

Vivid against white

Step out of the lift and the brightly coloured company sign catches the eye through the glass door. The reception itself is all white, so that the logo and corporate colours stand out.

02 · The circle

Collaboration and café

The communication circle combines a collaboration space with movable furniture and a café. Meetings held in the open let others feel their energy, and the monitor doubles as digital signage when no meeting is on.

03 · Work

Club rooms and personal space

Desks are free. Loosely enclosed “club rooms” give teams a base, divided by cabinets that also solve the storage problem. By the windows are electric sit-stand desks, booth seats, semi-enclosed seats and phone booths.
