ESR — Minato: arches like warehouse frames on a top floor

ESR develops logistics facilities, and Takato Tamagami Design had already designed many rest lounges and nurseries in them. For ESR’s new main office, on the top floor of a large building in Minato, about 1,600 m² with some 80 desks, the designers lined the dogleg-shaped floor with a run of arches, each slightly different.

Concept

Arches

The arches form a futuristic, organic and seamless route. Inside it sit a social lounge, a gallery and meeting rooms, the core of communication with guests.

Arched portal frames have long been used in warehouses that need long spans, so the arches stand for ESR’s logistics business, and their gradual change for the change and growth it brings.

01 · Lounge

Towards the sky garden

In the social lounge the arches fan out and lead the eye to a sky garden. Off the elevator, guests are greeted by a bar counter carved in three-dimensional curves of wood, serving coffee and drinks, and staff meet there after work.

Arches at the desks

The arch also shapes the walls of a staff-only lounge and the desk partitions, so varied shapes in an otherwise uniform workspace invite informal, chance conversations.
