Taisei Design — Shinjuku: a workplace left unfinished on purpose

Concept

Light instead of walls

The division wanted a second kind of workplace next to the ordinary office — one with a different air to it. Instead of solid partitions, translucent lit panels are set in a staggered line, so that each seat feels held without the floor losing its depth.

The company calls it an unfinished workplace that grows as it is used: a room its own designers keep adjusting.

The main work space is lit softly and kept unhurried, with room between the desks.

02 · Counter seats

Somewhere to change the mood

Counter seats give people a place to move to when the mood needs changing.

03 · Solo work

Seats for concentration

Solo-work seats are set aside for work that needs quiet.

04 · Meetings

Soft light, and a booth for calls

The meeting space sits inside the same soft light; a tele-booth with high partitions takes the calls.

05 · Groups

Room for a team of any size

The last area is built for groups large and small to work side by side.
