Studio Kafka — Nakano: an anime studio lit from the ceiling

Studio Kafka is an animation production company. It moved to the 14th floor of a new building in front of Nakano Station, about 140 tsubo. Kinomoto Shokai used partitions in nuanced colours for the entrance and meeting rooms and wood in the studio, so it does not feel too much like an office.

Relaxed but focused

A space that is not too office-like lets people relax and still concentrate.

01 · Drawing

Light that does not reflect

To stop light reflecting on the LCD pen tablets used for drawing, the lighting is indirect and bounces off the ceiling, and it is easy to adjust. Large mirrors in the corners let animators check body movements as they work.

02 · Breaks

A view and a smoking booth

A refresh area makes the most of the view with a roomy layout, and a smoking booth supports different ways of working.
