Panefuri Kogyo — Nagaokakyō: an office raised to see the mountains around Kyoto

Panefuri Kogyo’s head office stands in Nagaokakyō, south-west of Kyoto, on the old Saigoku Highway. The client wanted the office floors as high as possible. Amorphe, led by Kiyoshi Sey Takeyama, opened the views north and west, towards the Nishiyama mountains and Mount Atago, and placed a terrace towards the sunset.

Concept

Views first

North brings steady light, and the buildings across the street are low. To the west, beyond low neighbours, lie the beautiful Nishiyama range and the sunset.

From the terrace the view runs from Nishiyama to Mount Atago, the Kitayama range, Mount Hiei and the northern Higashiyama, with the city, Kyoto Station and Kyoto Tower below.

A world apart

The architect first made the office a separate world, a small universe, independent of a townscape that keeps changing, then imagined it as the starting point of the future street.
