KREI Open Source Studio — Minato: boxes inside a box

KREI Open Source Studio was set up in 2010 by KOKUYO and co-lab, a collective of creators, as a 350 m² studio in Minato, Tokyo, to test an “open source” way of working. In-house staff and independent creators share the building, run their own work and lower the barriers between them.

Three kinds of box

The old building is itself a large, simple box. Booths on the second floor are bases for individual creators; the basement is a box where creators meet; on the ground floor a 3 m camping box opens and closes for many activities.
