dip — Roppongi: a standing desk that becomes a meeting room

Concept

Three pieces of furniture, three kinds of talking

Rather than build more meeting rooms, dip named three things and put them on the floor. Talk Stand is a standing spot with a whiteboard: stand at it and it becomes an instant meeting room, which the company says raises both concentration and speed.

Brainstorming Box is the opposite of a formal room — a casual place to throw ideas around or push a piece of team work along, on the theory that open space produces freer ideas. Komoru Room is for shutting the world out: somewhere you can concentrate without noticing anyone around you, and the most popular of the three with people doing solo work.

The main floor sits on the 31st storey of Roppongi Grand Tower, high enough that the window does half the work of a break.

The standing format is the point. A talk held on your feet in front of a whiteboard tends to finish.

Deliberately casual, and deliberately not bookable in the way a meeting room is.

Komoru means to hole up. The room is built so that the people around you stop registering at all.

The rest of the floor carries the ordinary business of a company of three thousand people: lounges, meeting rooms and the places between them.
