DeNA — Shibuya: headquarters inside a WeWork, and a company that works from anywhere

Games, live streaming, healthcare, sports and smart cities: DeNA runs many businesses, and its headquarters is a WeWork in Shibuya Scramble Square. The office is one option among many — home, other flexible offices, even a side job.

Concept

Many ways of gathering

DeNA puts comfort for each employee first, and treats time and place as resources to use well: the office, home, flexible offices, side jobs. Around that sits a support system for life events — health management, childcare and nursing care — so people can keep working for a long time.

02 · Hybrid work

From anywhere in Japan

Staff work from home or any WeWork and other flexible offices. Employees living far away have no daily commuting cap — up to ¥150,000 a month, by plane or ferry if needed, with approval. Workations are being trialled to refresh and to connect people from different departments.

A Chief Health Officer

A dedicated CHO office — Chief Health Officer — works on exercise, food, sleep and mental health based on staff surveys. A health room has an occupational physician and nurses on site, and a counsellor visits every week.

04 · How they work

Banked leave and a return-to-work allowance

Side jobs are allowed with approval. Unused paid leave banks up to 10 days a year and 60 in total for childcare, nursing care, illness or fertility treatment. Partners get five days of Baby Care leave at a birth; parents returning from leave receive ¥20,000 a month until the child is eighteen months old; nursing-care leave runs to 93 days. Two company pensions, a stock plan with matching, a remote-work allowance of ¥450 a working day, long-service awards and club subsidies round it out.
